Manga Review: Shinobi Undercover

Introduction: (School Boy Shinobi)     Shinobi Undercover tells the story of an undercover ninja known as Yodaka Nozuki as he befriends and protects Aoi Mukai. This is a challenge for him on multiple levels, first he has a crippling fear of social situations and second she's get a knack for getting into all kinds of trouble. So far it has been enjoyable, that being said there isn't even a full volume out. As with Ichi The Witches review, I would consider this a "review in progress" Characters: (A Klutz, A Socially Anxious, And Two Ninja)     As mentioned before the two main character are Yodaka Nozuki and Aoi Mukai, however, there are are two other ninja protecting Aoi, one is called Hibari and the other Umineko. (Side note: I say they are called those names because we only get their codenames) I'll start Hibari and Umineko as so far their characters have been fleshed out the least. So far Hibari and Umineko both don't have much to them, they seem to be side ...

Manga Reviews: Ichi The Witch

Introduction: (Witches Majiks And An Explanation)      Over the past two days I have been reading a few different manga that are fairly new, or have a fairly small following, as I believe those would be interesting to review, and it seems that is what you like to see. When doing this I found a few manga that I believe would make for interesting reviews. Ichi The Witch is one of these manga. To give a short synopsis of Ichi The Witch; in a world inhabited by dangerous creatures called "Majiks" there are witches who hunt these Majiks. The Witches get their powers by passing tests of friendly Majiks and one such Witch is an unlikely hunter named Ichi. This short synopsis glosses over somethings, but I will go over them soon. Characters: An Unlikely Hero  (And Possibly A Little Stereotypical)     The first thing I look for in a Shonen manga is the characters, you can't have a good story without good characters and I'm glad to say that on this front Ichi The Wit...

Three Things Thursday: Slice Of Life

I thought I'd experiment with a few different formats on this blog and see what sticks. I'll probably always do the Manga Of The Week but it would be nice to have something else as well. That being said this is the first Three Things Thursday, so I'll explain the Idea. Three Things Thursday is a panel where I post about three things that all relate to each other. (Manga and Anime related of course) This week, We will be talking about three slice of life Manga; Saint Young Men (Our Manga Of The Week), Ranma 1/2, and Blue Box Saint Young Men -     What Can I say about Saint Young Men that I didn't in my glowing review of it earlier this week. It has laugh out loud spiritual humor, combined with post chapter translations that give context for jokes and stories that you might not understand. This means that not only do you see the hilarity of Jesus and Buddha's daily life on earth, you also learn religious and cultural subtext behind it all. It truly has become, my ...

Review: Saint Young Men

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Jesus was alive and on earth today? What about Buddha? Well Saint Young Men is just that, Jesus and Buddha are taking a much needed break after the end of the century, and they decide to spend it here on earth. This, of course leads to all kinds of hilarious situations such as; Jesus not realizing Christmas is his birthday or Buddha winning a life-sized statue of himself at a fair. Learning While I Read      One of the best things about Saint Young Men is the fact that the author (Hikaru Nakamura) has quite obviously done his research. At the end of every chapter, there is section of translation notes. These "translation notes" are explanations of things that some may not understand. For example in the third chapter Jesus says that his stigmata opened; it is then explained in the translation note that the word "stigmata" refers to the wounds Jesus received when crucified. This is something that not every...
